Hillsborough High School Boys' Lacrosse Coaching Staff
Head Coach - Mark Wilson
Coach Wilson is a graduate of Hillsborough High School (Class of 1990). He and his class helped to start the lacrosse program at HHS in 1989, and he was a captain and MVP of the inaugural team as a goaltender and defenseman. Coach Wilson was the first recipient of the Hillsborough Lacrosse Legacy of Leadership stick that is passed down to a rising varsity player each year. After high school, Coach Wilson attended Lehigh University (Class of 1994) and played 4 years of varsity lacrosse as a long stick midfielder. In his senior year, Lehigh had its most wins ever in a season posting a 12-3 record, and the team was ranked as high as 18th in Division I during the 1994 season.
Coach Wilson began his coaching career in Hillsborough serving first as a volunteer coach for the HHS winter indoor team while he was still in college. Following his graduation from college, Coach Wilson began coaching in the Hillsborough Youth Lacrosse program. In 2003, Coach Wilson took over as the head junior varsity coach at St. Joseph High School in Metuchen. The following year, he was named St. Joe’s varsity defensive coordinator and helped lead that team to the 2004 Greater Middlesex County Tournament Championship. During the 2006 season, St. Joseph was the Greater Middlesex County Regular season champion, and Coach Wilson was named Greater Middlesex County Assistant Coach of the year.
In 2007, Coach Wilson returned to Hillsborough as the head varsity coach. In 2009, Coach Wilson was honored to be voted Skyland Conference Coach of the Year and NJSIAA Group IV Coach of the Year by his fellow coaches. In his time at Hillsborough, Coach Wilson has coached the Raiders to more wins than any other coach in the program’s history.
Coach Wilson is most proud that during his 4 years back in the Boro, 17 of his 49 graduated seniors have gone on to play varsity lacrosse at the college level, and many more are competing in the collegiate club ranks. Also among his graduates are an HHS Male Athlete of the Year, an HHS Scholar-Athlete of the year, and an Academic All-American. One of Coach Wilson’s most important goals is to graduate seniors that are qualified academically and athletically to attend college and play lacrosse.
Coach Wilson is a Special Education Teacher at HHS. In addition to teaching and coaching, Coach Wilson is still very active as a lacrosse player in various club leagues, summer leagues, and tournaments, and he serves as the Men's Lacrosse Alumni Ambassador for his alma mater, Lehigh University. Coach Wilson resides in Plainfield, NJ with his daughter Hope.
Varsity Assistant Coach (Defense and Goalies) - Dan Glod
Coach Glod is one of the most decorated goaltenders in Hillsborough Lacrosse History. He is still the all-time save leader with 681. Coach Glod graduated from Hillsborough High School in 2004. Following HHS Coach Glod attended Penn State University where he graduated in 2009. While at Penn State, Coach Glod was the Penn State Men’s Lacrosse Club team goalie.
A volunteer assistant with the Raiders during their best ever 13-5 2011 season, Coach Glod will now take over the reigns of the defense as the team’s first assistant.

Volunteer Varsity Assistant Coach (Offense) – Ryan Mangold
Coach Mangold joins the staff this year after serving as an off season league and tournament coach for the team for many years. Coach Mangold is another of the many Raider Alums on the staff having been a member of the Hillsborough Lacrosse class of 2004.
After high school, Coach Mangold played NCAA Division III lacrosse at Centenary College. He graduated in 2008.
Currently Coach Mangold serves us all as a Port Authority Police officer at Newark Airport.

Volunteer Varsity Assistant Coach - Dan Comunale
Coach Comunale was a three year Hillsborough High School Varsity Letter Winner for Boys Lacrosse. He graduated from Hillsborough in 2000 in the top 15% of the class. He presently hold various HHS Boys Lacrosse records and holds his high school lacrosse memories in great esteem.
After Hillsborough, Coach Comunale attended Fairleigh Dickinson for two years where he played attack for the Men's Lacrosse program. He transferred to Pace University in New York City, where he joined numerous men's lacrosse leagues and continued his lacrosse career in the club ranks. Coach Comunale is currently a club and summer lacrosse teammate of Coach Wilson's.
Coach Comunale presently is a Business Operations Manager/Administrative Manager for a mid sized Intellectual Property Law Firm in Raritan, NJ. He manages an administrative staff of around 10 professionals that support the attorneys in the office and help operate the business side of the firm.
Coach Comunale is also currently enrolled in the Kean University Executive MBA program and is looking forward to owning his own business in the near future. Has a great entrepreneurial spirit and enjoys giving back to the community. He also currently volunteers at the Somerset County United Way in Bridgewater, NJ.
Coach Comunale resides in Franklin Park with his wife Hayley and his son (future all-world attackman) Max.
Volunteer Varsity Assistant – Ryan Fitzgerald
Coach Fitzgerald was a decorated member of the Hillsborough Lacrosse class of 2005. Coach Fitzgerald played Division III lacrosse at Misericordia College graduating in 2009.
Currently, Coach Fitzgerald works the banking industry, but also spent some time working for the NJ Pride professional lacrosse team.
Coach Fitzgerald resides in Hillsborough.
JV Head Coach - Byron Martin
Coach Martin is entering his 3rd year as a part of Hillsborough Athletics. He was a three sport athlete and 1999 graduate of Montclair High School. At Montclair, he played lacrosse for 4 years and earned All-State honors his senior year as a defenseman. Coach Martin went on to play close defense for three years on the Kean University Lacrosse team.
After Kean, Coach Martin volunteered time with the Montclair youth lacrosse program. Coach Martin worked in Newark at a charter school for 4 years where he was an assistant gym teacher. He coached the girls and boys basketball teams by himself and took the girls to the finals twice!
He comes to Hillsborough after coaching the JV and Freshman lacrosse teams at Montgomery. Coach Martin also coached the 7th
grade basketball team at Montgomery.
Coach Martin currently works at a private Special ED school (Behavior problem children) as a crisis worker, helps out with their sports teams who play games with other schools during the school day, and finds time to coach JV Girls Basketball at the Pingry School.
Coach Martin lives in Princeton with his wife Kathryn and daughter Jordan.
Volunteer JV Assistant Coach - Dan Rogers
Coach Rogers brings 20+ years of experience as a mentor and coach of student athletes to the freshman program. Coach Rogers finished the playing portion of his athletic career as a standout running back for the Trenton State Lions. He earned a BS in Economics while at Trenton State, but decided to embark on a career in education via the Alternate Route to Teaching Certification program. Since the late 1980’s Coach Rogers has helped develop high school student athletes at Delaware Valley Regional, Belvidere, North Hunterdon, Franklin, and Hillsborough high schools. Coach Rogers is also an assistant basketball coach at Franklin High School.
Freshman Coach - Bob Zwirko
Coach Zwirko is the most experienced coach on the staff and one of the most decorated coaches in the Hillsborough High School Athletic Department. Coach Zwirko is a 1976 graduate of Hillsborough High School. He played football for Hillsborough on 3 varsity teams that went undefeated in the regular season. From 1973-1975, he was a state finalist twice and a state champion in football. After high school, Coach Zwirko attended the University of Arizona where he received his BS in 1983.
Coach Zwirko returned to Hillsborough to teach and coach in 1987. He is the only member of the Hillsborough football family to be affiliated with all 4 of Hillsborough's football coaches, and he is the only member of the Hillsborough lacrosse family to be involved with the program since its inception in 1989. As a freshman coach in football and lacrosse, Coach Zwirko has had a huge positive impact on Hillsborough athletes for over 20 years.
Volunteer Assistant Freshman Coach – Eric Guevara
Coach Guevara was a member of the Hillsborough Lacrosse class of 2005. He was all-state honorable mention, first team all-area and second team all-Pitt selection at Hillsborough High School. Coach Guevara played 2 years of Division III lacrosse at Elmira College. He was all-conference honorable mention selection as a sophomore at Elmira College, named the team’s rookie of the year as a freshman, started every game in his two seasons at Elmira. Coach Guevara then transferred to Division I, Hartford. At Hartford, he was a 2 year starter and an America East Academic Honor Roll selection.
Coach Guevara currently works for the TSA at Newark Airport.
